CHICAGO RAILYARDS
In 2017, I received an email from a photo editor at TIME asking if I might be available to shoot an aerial assignment on infrastructure in America. One of the locations chosen was the Chicago Railyards, through which over 925 million tons of freight worth $1.3 trillion move each year.
The visual complexity of the railyards, the variety of railcars and locomotives, the interplay of industrial and adjacent urban environments, and the dramatic afternoon light all contributed to a fascinating opportunity for visual exploration.
